BLT

I'm sure you all know how to make BLT's but just in case ...

cook bacon
chop tomato
tear lettuce
toast bread
or not
spread with mayo
add lettuce
tomato
bacon

Eat and enjoy.
You might as well make yourself two ...
We usually do !

And if you want a BOLT, put a slice of onion on it. And if you want a BLAT, put a slice (or several!) of avocado on. As the vote may still be out whether onion and avocado would be tasty additions on the same sandwich, we shall call that one BALOT! I believe that toasted bread is mandatory, and that real mayonaise is the only acceptable spread, nothing light or Miraculously Whippy on any BLT, BOLT, BLAT, or BALOT that I bite into!

I've never tried a BOLT but I do love a good BLAT and if we sauteed the onion first, I think a BALOT would be amazing ! I don't toast the bread if it is really really fresh ... I'm sure that's not standard but it's me. But yeah ... real mayo is a must. Speaking of which ... have you ever made mayo yourself ?

your mom makes mayo every time we have a tappas night...she just adds fresh garlic to the mayo...hummm I wonder if that would be yummy on a BLT, BOLT, BLAT, or BALOT...

As Pam said, the answer is yes! Mayonnaise is eggs and oil. Patatas ali-oli is potatoes covered in garlic mayonnaise! I use the mayonnaise recipe in my Betty Crocker cookbook.

I don't have a Betty Crocker cookbook. Do you think that recipe might find it's way to this blog ? And any hints, tips, tricks that you've learned in your mayo making days. I'm going to be making ... not buying mayo in 2010 !
